Update on if weather forecasting should be run by the government

A critical discussion on my op-ed on weather forecasting services can be found here.

Not a very well researched article. Accuweather and other weather vendors start thier forecasting day looking at the NWS temperature guidance (modeled/human adjusted) then every consultant will nudge temps according to thier forecast reasoning and understanding. This is analogous to improving an already good product. Attaining a 25% improvement is good but without the NWS initial data I doubt that Accuweather or any other vendor's skill would be better then the NWS as it is currently constructed. My thoughts only

Dear Anonymous:

Do you understand that the data providing function is separate from issuing forecasts? NWS can do one without the other. Nor is it obvious to me why it should be doing either. In any case, why are these references to the Forecast Watch and Forecast Advisor information not "well researched." State specifically what is wrong with the information from those two sources.
