An Analysis of Concealed Permit Holders in Tennessee

WBIR TV in Knoxville, Tennessee has a detailed discussion of permit holders' characteristics. It shows a county by county breakdown of the 177,881 permit holders in the state. They find that while permit holders tend to be white males living in the suburbs, "there was no clear pattern" with income.

The actual TV report can be seen here. One county apparently had 11 percent of people with permits. The survey that they are referring to about the US having the highest gun ownership rate in the world is wrong. The study paid for by George Soros confused total guns with gun ownership rate.

Hi, John.

Actually, there was a quite clear pattern with income--negative correlation in the lower income ranges, gradually becoming moderate and positive through the ranges of 50k to 100k household income, and trailing off around 150k. (Roughly approximated--I'm at home and don't have my notes. Basically, we're looking at middle- to upper-middle-class.)

There was no clear pattern on educational attainment, however. Strongest points tended to fall between Associates to Masters, but the correlations were fairly weak and all over the place between those two points.

Several folks have suggested I need to give your work a read, when I asked for studies. I'll have a look.
