Obama's approval rating relative to other presidents
The Washington Times has this:
President Obama's media cheerleaders are hailing how loved he is. But at the 100-day mark of his presidency, Mr. Obama is the second-least-popular president in 40 years.
According to Gallup's April survey, Americans have a lower approval of Mr. Obama at this point than all but one president since Gallup began tracking this in 1969. The only new president less popular was Bill Clinton, who got off to a notoriously bad start after trying to force homosexuals on the military and a federal raid in Waco, Texas, that killed 86. Mr. Obama's current approval rating of 56 percent is only one tick higher than the 55-percent approval Mr. Clinton had during those crises.
As the attached chart shows, five presidents rated higher than Mr. Obama after 100 days in office. Ronald Reagan topped the charts in April 1981 with 67 percent approval. Following the Gipper, in order of popularity, were: Jimmy Carter with 63 percent in 1977; George W. Bush with 62 percent in 2001; Richard Nixon with 61 percent in 1969; and George H.W. Bush with 58 percent in 1989. . . . .

That is because there is too much compromise in Obama's administration already. He is literally making mud out of the very clear water her started out with.
Only that's not what the Gallup poll says. The Washington Times deliberately (surprise) distorts what the Gallup poll actually says.
The Washington Times is referring to their monthly survey. That is the only way that you can make a comparison back to the older presidents.
Actualy John, your statement is not correct. The Washington Times distorts the conclusions of the Gallup survey.
The Washington Times says this:

The Gallup poll says this:
"According to a recent Gallup review of the average first-quarter approval ratings of all elected presidents since Dwight Eisenhower in 1953, Obama's mid-60s approval level is solidly positive, although not extraordinary in historical terms."
...and contains a link to this which contains this statement:
"President Obama is off to a solid start as president, as far as his job approval ratings are concerned. His 63% first-quarter average is the better than the averages of each of his four predecessors, and the fourth best since 1953."
The Gallup article also has a table showing 1st quarter approval ratings for 11 past presidents to support its conclusions.
The link you provided to the Washington Times article doesn't show the table that the article refers to (at least not anymore), and the numbers cited in the article don't match the Gallup numbers, so I don't know where the Times' numbers come from, but they are 1)not doing an apples-to-apples comparison, and 2) they deliberately distorted the findings of the Gallup data.

Now, 56% say he has done an "excellent" or "good" job as president vs. 20% who rate him as "poor" or "terrible." An additional 23% say he has done "just OK."
