Markie Marxist sez: “We commies couldn’t care less about the commerce clause. It’s just a sop that we toss to our critics when they complain about us implementing our vision of unlimited government. It distracts them from what we’re really up to. If that works for us, fine, if not, then there’s a usually a federal judge handy who will say that it does anyway. It’s a win/win situation for us. All your commerce is belong to us! And every other aspect of your lives too!”

"Hamilton's Curse: How Jefferson's Arch Enemy Betrayed the American Revolution" is a great precursor for understanding how quickly the fix was in for growing the federal government. The seeds were sown as soon as the ink was dry. This is a great introduction and starting point to further investigate how we've come to where we are today.
